Testing Your Site
WS 4.0 relies on IE 5 or greater to be installed on your system because it shares many components with IE and also renders pages with it when previewing your site from within the program. As we all know, each browser tends to render the same page in different ways. To check the compatibility of your site with other browsers the easiest method is to open your browser of choice and enter the PATH to your install of WS 4.0's Preview directory.
( ex. for FIREFOX
file:///C:/Program_Files/Back_To_the_Beach/Web_Studio_4.0/Preview/
)
Don't worry about a specific file, just point it to the directory, and it should show the directory contents just as if you were looking at it as an FTP directory listing. Bookmark this address, and now you can point your browser of choice to test changes on--the-fly as long as you remember to preview with WS 4.0 first, so it will create the files. Choose the .html page you would like to view to test compatibility. Each time you make changes in WS 4.0 and preview the page, it will be updated here also. Simply REFRESH the browser view!
*NOTE* This method will not work for pages that contain php, ruby, or similar coding, only static HTML and CSS. To render those type of pages you must use a "Test" server on your local machine for previewing before uploading to the web. Learn More
Not only are your web sites created in this directory but they will also attempt to reference FROM this directory when previewing, because this is the physical location of the .html file on the machine. To learn how to render your pages correctly and not have to re-code them for uploading see the Referencing & Linking Tips.
